Implementing Fast Hierarchical Back Projection
نویسنده
چکیده
– Filtered back projection (FBP) is a commonly used image reconstruction scheme for parallel beam tomography. The algorithm implemented in this project, called fast hierarchical back projection (FHBP), was proposed in [1] as a fast approximation to the direct FBP technique. Through derivation, implementation and simulation results, I will show a complete picture on this novel algorithm for a classical image reconstruction problem. FHBP divides an image into smaller images and uses the basic fact that smaller images require less data to reconstruct. While the direct FBP technique has computational complexity O(N 3), the computational complexity of this FHBP is O(N 2 log 2 N). The gains achieved for a 512 x 512-pixel image for this specific implementation reached upwards of 100 with a worst case root mean squared error (RMSE) of 13.3/255 gray levels.

Fast System Matrix Calculation in CT Iterative Reconstruction
Introduction: Iterative reconstruction techniques provide better image quality and have the potential for reconstructions with lower imaging dose than classical methods in computed tomography (CT). However, the computational speed is major concern for these iterative techniques. The system matrix calculation during the forward- and back projection is one of the most time- cons...
متن کاملFast back-projection algorithm for Bistatic SAR with parallel trajectory
Exploiting the fundamental redundancy between nearby aperture positions for high frequency reflectivity components in the along-track direction, we will propose a factorized back-projection algorithm for bistatic SAR with parallel trajectory inversion based on recursive partitioning of the back-projection integral. The basic back-projection summation is factorised into n processing stages, each...
متن کاملA Comparison of Fast Factorised Back-projection and Wavenumber Algorithms for Sas Image Reconstruction
Abstract The Fast Factorised Back-Projection (FFBP) algorithm has received considerable attention recently for SAS image reconstruction. The FFBP algorithm provides a means of trading image quality and/or resolution for a reduction in computational cost over standard Back-Projection. In this paper we describe FFBP for SAS image reconstruction and compare it to the Wavenumber algorithm in terms ...
متن کاملA fast back-projection algorithm for bistatic SAR imaging
Using a far-field model, bistatic synthetic aperture radar (SAR) acquires Fourier data on a rather unusual, non-Cartesian grid in the Fourier domain. Previous image formation algorithms were mainly based on direct Fourier reconstruction to take advantage of the FFT, but the irregular coverage of the available Fourier domain data and the 2-D interpolation in the Fourier domain may adversely affe...

We propose a fast algorithm for far-field SAR imaging based on a new fast back-projection algorithm developed for tomography. We also modify the algorithm for the near-field scenario. The fast back-projection algorithm for SAR has computational complexity . Compared to traditional FFT-based methods, our new algorithm has potential advantages: the new algorithm does not need frequency-domain int...
